Web site history since 1998
2021 to 2025
The last few months has seen a concerted effort to find and add to the trees various Duxburys who had been missed in earlier research. These are primarily those who lived, and in some cases live, in England, but include a few from the USA thanks to a Duxbury getting in touch.
There have been significant additions to the descendants of William Ducksbury (1785) from Kendal. As a result the number of names in all trees has reaching over 20,000. It was 11,000 in 2003.
In the early work in building these Duxbury trees for this website, trees from many sources were included. As this is a Duxbury website some of those who do not have any close relationship with a Duxbury have been removed. More of these will be removed in the future as more Duxburys are added so that the total number of names remains close to the current of 20,000.
Over the last few months there have been additions to the Duxbury trees which have now been uploaded to the web. An earlier update was done last December. These updates have been instigated by Duxburys getting in touch and telling me about their families who were not on a tree. This has enabled extensions to a number of branches to the trees and enabled a few minor corrections to be made.
I am currently working on more additions which will be included in the next update.
The big change at the beginning of this month has been a new URL for the Duxbury Family website. Duxburyfamily.com has taken over from duxburymk.net. Please spread this news to those interested in the Duxbury ancestors.
Ignore the old URL as it is now nothing to do with the Duxbury family. If you are intersted in further details of the change, please contact me.
Over the last few months a few more families have been added, and a number of minor corrections and additions made mainly of dates.
The additions made to the trees over the last year have primarily been as a reult of queries from Duxburys on where do I fit it. Even with only a few family details it has been possible to advise on their ancestors and add them to the appropriate tree.
At times the enquirer has give so few details of their immediate family, and then not responded to requests, meaning that their ancestors cannot be identified. It is always satisfying to be able to help someone and a recent enquiry resulted in a family in the USA being linked into their ancestors from Lancashire who emigrated 200 years ago.
There have been few queies recently from Duxburys who wish to know how they fit into the greater Duxbury family. As a result no chages to the trees. As noted earlier the impetus for an update to the web site has been the publication of Joe Duxbury's book, The Ship Duxbury and other vessels, which I commend to you.
The domain Duxburymk.net has now been reclaimed. This was lost some two and a half years ago through unfortunate circumstances. In future this site will operate under Duxburymk.net, as well as Duxburyfamily.com, the replacement name. This has resulted in the site being moved to a more reliable and updated hosting system, a move which will be transparent to most users.
As a result, there have been a number of changes to the site, but the access to the family trees remains as before. Some areas of the old site which have become redundant thanks to easier access to genealogical records than 20 years ago have been removed. Links to other sites have been updated or removal as necessary.
The area of the site devoted to Shakespeare in Lancashire and the Standish family, as provided by Helen Moorwood, remains unchanged with the intention of updates, in conjunction with Helen, in the foreseeable future.
