Web site history since 1998

2011 to 2015

July 2011

The number of Duxburys and those realted to a Duxbury has increased, but there are many more Duxburys still to be added.

Work has progressed on expanding the separate Family Tree of the Prestwiches which supplements the Family Tree of the Taylors, which in turn has been expanded to include the discovery of more Taylor (distant) relatives.

While these are still small, compared to the Duxbury tree, the number of names has grown to some 400 and 1000 names respectively.

A further tree, containing 1100 names, has been added of the Murphy, Johnson, Harrison and Mason families; my wife's family. The majority of those included are Australians, but many other nationalities too. The research for this tree was largely by the late Peter Murphy for the Murphy/Harrison families and by Helen Scaroborough for the Johnson/Mason families.

November 2011

During the last few months a number of minor updates have been made to the master Duxbury Family tree, mainly as a result of e-mail contacts. These amendments are now included in the Duxbury Family Tree.

Of particular interest is the book produced by Stephen Duxbury and published by The History Press. It's The Brief History of Lancashire and the Duxburys get an occasional mention! A recommended Christmas present for those who have everything!

January 2013

It had been my intention to revamp this page during 2012, but I have failed. Meanwhile both during 2012 and this month the main Duxbury tree has been updated with additions and corrections largely as a result as a result of e-mail contacts. These amendments are now included in the Duxbury Family Tree.

I have made significant additions to the Taylor tree, but not in respect of those bearing the Taylor name. As a result of a request from my second cousin, whom I recently met for the first time as a result of this web site, I have added many who bear the name of Coupe and their direct descendants. Our great-grandmother, Jane Coupe, married Henry Taylor from whom we are both descended.

April 2013

Additions of more names to the Duxbury tree mainly as a result of information received from Duxbury descendents who had seen this web site. Please keep providing information especially on those who are not yet included.

November 2013

The number of names in the Duxbury Tree is now more than 15,000 as a result of searches for the Duxbury name in the UK baptism and census records as well as e-mails from Duxburys who were not, and should have been, included.

There are many more still to be found and included before a start is made on the US and other records. Please keep providing information especially on those who are not yet included.

March 2014

Over the last few months more Duxburys have been added, mainly from the Darwen area in the early 1800s.

There has also been a few corrections with the most significant being to show John Duxbury (b18 Dec 1794 at Waterside, Colne and who married Ann / Nancy Manley) as the son of Ellen Duxbury (b abt 1767) and to show John Duxbury (b19 Jan 1793 at Waterside, Colne and who married Mary Emmott) as the son of Ridehalsh and Martha (Matty) Duxbury. Effectively an interchange of the parents of these two John Duxburys. Thanks to Ruth Duxbury and Paul Haworth (and others) who not only identified the error but also provided the corrections. The information gained by following the link to the "Descendants of Ralph Duxbury of Colne, Lancashire, 1694 - Present" has not yet been updated.

I have also added to the Prestwich Trees with the aim of including all of those bearing the Prestwich surname who were recorded in any of the 1841 to 1911 censuses.

A later aim will be to link the several different trees. There are a number of Prestwich Trees for public viewing which do link some of these trees, but all cannot be correct as there is conflicting information with very little information given on sources of the information.

Any help or information to achieve this aim or to provide information on other Prestwiches would be much appreciated.

October 2014

This update of the Duxbury Tree now includes all of the additional details provided by Ruth Duxbury on the Duxbury and the related Ashworth families.

A few other minor updates have also been included which brings the total number of individual on the Duxbury Tree to 15792 of which 2615 bear the family name of Duxbury (or derivations of Duxbury).

February 2015

The major change this month has been a move of the website to a new location. This move was unexpected and hence apologies to those who were not able to access the site for a while. This will be the start of a revamp of the site which will take time, but in the meantime the main elements of the old site have been moved. Some of the site, which I believe has lost its usefulness over the years, has not been moved and hence you will find broken links if you try to access them. These will be removed in time or re-established if it is felt that there is a need. Let me know if a link that you want is not working! At the same time the Duxbury tree has been updated.

There are now over 16,000 names on the tree and the more one does the more you find Duxburys who are not included. I also found a number of duplicates which have now been removed.

If your family is not on the tree", do please let me know so that they can be included. In this way you might well make contact with some of your "lost"cousins.

March 2015

With the change last month of the website move to a new location, this months change has been limited to a minor revamp of this page. I have yet to complete a review of possible broken links brought about by the move.

The opportunity has been taken to give more information of the various Duxbury family trees with the hope that this will lead to a consolidation of these numerous trees.

If your family is not on the tree", do please let me know so that they can be included. In this way you might well make contact with some of your "lost"cousins.

May 2015

A chance meeting with a Duxbury, and a conversation with a mutual friend, has resulted in two more Lancashire Duxbury families being added to the Duxbury Tree; there are still many more names to be added to one of these families. Fortunately the ancestors for both families were already on the tree but to find how they are related will require tracing ancestors back from 1700; not an easy task.

Further names have been added to the Prestwich Tree, which now has over 3000 names, while the number of names on the Duxbury tree has grown to over 16,200 names. Still many more to be added to both trees, so please keep on the flow of information to me; any details are always appreciated.

June 2015

Another change to the location where this website is hosted as the previous location has closed it web hosting service.

August 2015

An enquiry from a Duxbury in Western Australia confirmed that her family and ancestors were not included on any of the Duxbury trees. This has now been remedied with the addition of over 100 names and a second branch of one of the four main Duxbury trees, that headed by David Duxbury (1709) of Eldridge.

There are still more names to add as well as many who trace their Duxbury origins back through female Duxburys.

In the process of the updating, two Duxbury sapling trees from the Leeds area have been grafted onto this tree.

A subsequent e-mail from a Ducksbury in the States has linked the Dukesburys from Buffalo NY and Ontario (via David Dukesbury (1805) of Leeds) into the David Duxbury of Eldridge's tree.

December 2015

Since August more descendants of David Duxbury (1709) of Eldridge have been added to the tree with the more recent additions from the Bradford area of Yorkshire.

In additions corrections and additions have been made as a result of e-mails from a number of Duxbury descendants.

The tree now has over 16,500 names, but I am aware that many Duxburys are still missing!
