Web site history since 1998

2016 to 2020

March 2016

This year has seen more of the Bradford descendants of David Duxbury (1709) of Eldridge added to the tree.

Another recent addition has been the descendants of John Duxbury (1795) of Bolton; this was the result of an e-mail from a descendants who noted that she could not fine her ancestor on the tree. It is these such e-mails which enable the trees to grow. Please keep these updates coming.

The tree now has over 11,800 names, with an aim of 17,000 in the next few months.

May 2016

More Duxburys added mainly as a result of e-mails from Duxbury and Duxbury descendents whose families were not included. In general they have been linked back to mid 19th century Duxburys who were on the tree.

The Prestwich Family Trees now include more of the Prestwich Families who appear in the 1841 to 1911 censuses. However still more to be included.

September 2016

A chance find of a 19th century prolific Duxbury family has pushed the number of entries on the Duxbury tree to over 17,000.

In addition it has been possible to link some of the smaller trees into other larger trees. All on-going work when time allows.

January 2017

Only a few updates and corrections since September.

September 2017

In July the Duxbury tree was updated to include more names, mainly found through the census, birth and marriage records.

More recently the Prestwich trees have been expanded with the aim of including all Prestwiches who names appear in the 1841 to 1911 census records. Later work will be to merge together many of the trees which have no ancestors before about 1800.

December 2017

Recent work has been adding names and linking families who are descendants of David Duxbury (1709) of Eldridge. Each time one looks at David's tree one realises that there must be more descendants to add, so the work continues. All efforts in finding David's parents have so far been in vain, but possibly one day someone will have a break through.

There are now over 17,250 names in the tree and next milestone will be 18,000 so if your family is not there, please let me know and we will see what we can do to add them.

June 2018

Firstly an apology to those who could not access the web pages in April. Hopefully the problem of a "robot" jamming matters has been resolved.

Although the last reported update was in December last year a few minor changes have taken place earlier this year.

There have been additions to the Duxbury Tree with now almost 17,500 names on the tree, but still many Duxburys do not yet appear.

The links to other websites have been updated and new ones added - a long overdue exercise which I hope you will find of use.

A suggestion from a "Duxbury" was to include some details of where the Duxbury name has been used. There are several roads, streets etc named Duxbury, but the best know use of the name is Duxbury, Massachusetts. There is also a Duxbury Point and there was a ship named Duxbury. Look at the link below to The Duxbury Name and Places and please let me know of addition as this list is just a start.

This update of the Duxbury Tree now includes all of the additional details provided by Ruth Duxbury on the Duxbury and the related Ashworth families.

October 2018

The summer is not a time of year for researching on-line and hence no major updates to the site since June. Thank you to those of you who have responded with more places with the Duxbury name. I am sure that there are many more which I do not know about, so please let me know if you find an omission from the list. See the link below to Duxbury Names and Places.

A recent enquiry from a Duxbury descendant as to whether she was related to a friend, with a Duxbury surname, has resulted in another Duxbury Tree (a sapling) being added. This has taken the total number of names to well over 17,500 and has also revealed that there are many more Duxburys (and Duxbury descendants) from the Burnley of Lancashire who have yet to be added. An ongoing project!

Finally please let me know if you know of anyone who should be on a Duxbury tree but is not. It is through this feedback the numer of names has increased year by year.

March 2019

Since last December there has been a significant update to a number of family trees. This was initiated by contact from Duxburys in both England and Australia. As a result additions have been made to Duxburys in Bolton, Blackburn and Burnley in particular. At the same time there has been a tidying of a number of trees and the removal of trees, or branhes of trees, which have no relevant to Duxburys.

More that 400 more names of those born with a Duxbury surname have been added with the total number of names on all trees increasing by about 1000 names to over 18,000. There are still many more Duxburys to be added! If you see an omission, do please get in touch.

February 2020

After the push this time last year to add more with the Duxbury name to the tree, there has been less activity recently with the main additions to the Duxburys in Yorkshire. These have been helped by the increase in records coming on-line. Elsewhere more names have been added largely as a result of contacts from Duxburys and Duxbury descendants contacting me. Please keep these enquiries coming!

March and May 2020

The events of the last few weeks have changed the way we work and think. Many are having to spend much longer time at home where boredom may set in. This is a time to think about your ancestors and undertake some research on-line.

For a start the Duxbury trees on this site has been updated twice in the last few weeks with the addition of about 850 more names, bringing the total to over 19,000; these include families of Duxburys from Blackburn, Colne, Dewsbury, (Greater) Manchester and London.

Now is the time to see if you are included and, if not, undertake the necessary research. Please let me know of your results so that I can include them on the tree. If you are a Duxbury, or descended from a Duxbury you should be there! If you need help, please let me know and I will see what I can do.

There are other trees for the Prestwich families and again if you are a Prestwich descendant, as I am, you ought to be included on one of these Prestwich trees. Likewise if you are a Johnson from the area of South Australia you might be linked to the Johnson tree.

Finally I would also be delighted to hear from any Taylor, or Taylor relative, who can trace his roots back to the Kirkham area of Lancashire in the mid 19th century. There must be some and I would like to hear from you. There must be more names to add to this tree, but where are they?

November 2020

Resulting from a query on where do I belong in the Duxbury family, I have added a Duxbury family from the Wigan / Ashton in Makerfield area of Lancashire. This, along with a few other updates, brings the total of names on the trees to over 19,250. Still more to add!
