Roy was born August 7, 1884. He received his education in Canova and at State College in Brookings. He taught in rural schools in Miner County and later entered business in Ramona and Howard. He married Caroline Appel, August 29, 1911. They had two daughters Vivian and Mildred. The family moved to Wessington Springs where he operated a meat market from 1922 until his death July 6, 1945. Caroline died in Florida in 1975 at the age of 87. Vivian for many years was Dean of Nursing at Florida State University. Mildred married Charles Sullivan of Downey, California in 1942. She has a son, Charles, and a daughter, Irene. Mildred lives on the family homestead north of Canova.

Russell was a trucker after high school. He married Mary Williams, June 26, 1941. A greater part of their married life was spent on two farms on the southwest edge of Canova. Russell seved on the schoolboard for a number of years, was a member of the Miner County Soil Conservation committee and the Miner County Weed Board. After retiring from farming he was engaged in custom combining. Was a lifelong member of the United Church of Christ.
