At the time of James’s brother’s death, in May 1885 (page 64), the family address is shown as 28 Exchange Street, Darwen.
The 1881 Census shows that James Kenyon was the fifth child of Robert Kenyon and Margaret Kenyon (nee Duxbury) and that there were a total of nine children ranging in age from 1 year to 21 years old living at the same address.
James married Dorothy Knowles at St. James Church, Over Darwen on 23rd December 1893 (page 76). James was aged 23 yrs and Dorothy was 24 years old. James’s father is shown as Robert Kenyon (weaver) and their address is 39 Exchange Street, Over Darwen. Witnesses at their wedding were James’ younger sister Alice Kenyon and Thomas Lightbown Gillibrand (copy of 1881 Census, page 78). In 1901 Thomas Lightbown Gillibrand, age 34 yrs (Cotton Loomer) was living at 3 Chapels, Over Darwen with his wife Betsy Gillibrand (age 29 yrs) and their son John, age 2 yrs (page 79).
