I today received from the Borthwick Institute a copy of John Duxbury's(1760 - 1841) last Will and Testament.
It's quite short, only two pages, but makes for some interesting reading, especially on the subject of his children. Below is detailed the various mentions each child merits in the will:
'And I give and bequeath to my son Oliver Duxbury the sum of ten pounds.'
'Unto my son Daniel Duxbury the sum of twenty five pounds.'
'Unto my Grandson John Duxbury (he being the son of my Daughter Catharine) the sum of ten pounds to be expended, and laid out on him, in his education, bringing up, or procuring him some trade, at the discretion of my Executors.'
'Unto my Daughter Fanny the wife of John Whitehead the sum of twenty five pounds'
'Unto my Son Shepherd Duxbury the sum of five pounds.'
'Unto my Daughter Mary wife of Benjamin Brindle the sum of fifteen pounds.'
'..all my Farming Stock, Horses and Cattle, Hay and Corn, Household Goods and Furniture, Money, Securities for Money Book and other debts unto me belonging
- and all the rest residue and remainder of my Personal Estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever I give devise and bequeath the same Unto and to the use of my four sons and two Daughters namely Oliver, George, Thomas, Moses, Catharine and Sally Duxbury...'
