Kay Arthur [Male] b. 8 JUL 1764 Cornberry Fold

Appears in the Pole Lane census.
In total there were12 children, including your George KAY. Arthur and Isabell attended Pole Lane Chapel, which is no longer standing but the graveyard is still there and contains a few gravestones.

Pole Lane Chapel has an interesting history. In 1806 the minister was
thrown out of the chapel and left with the register to form his own chapel
in Darwen. When he was replaced the minister undertook a census of the
congregation. The census arranges families in groups and the census gives
the person's date of birth.

1891 census 15 Prince Street
John DUXBURY, baptised 1843, married Sarah Ann WHITTAKER at Holy Trinity in 1867. He lived near his wife's people at High Street, Darwen. Numbers 99, 80 and 9 are recorded which suggests a fair amount of flitting.

By 1881, when he is 27, John DUXBURY is an overlooker and has moved to 15 Prince Street, another two up two down stone fronted terrace house, where he is still living when his daughter Florence gets married in 1908.

The 1881 census shows that 15 Prince Street was home to John and Sarah Ann, six of their children and John's sister-in-law as a lodger. From observation, the house had a front door opening directly into the front room which was flagged.

John DUXBURY, retired cotton overlooker, died in 1912 age 68 at the home of his son James Henry ("Uncle Jim") at 33 Percival Street, Darwen. His wife Sarah Ann had died in 1903 age 55. Family memory has him connected with bell ringing at Holy Trinity, but no contemporary records have yet been traced.

Historical Information: Westvleteren was outside the front held by Commonwealth forces in Belgium during the First World War, but in July 1917, in readiness for the forthcoming offensive, groups of casualty clearing stations were placed at three positions called by the troops Mendinghem, Dozinghem and Bandaghem. The 4th, 47th and 61st Casualty Clearing Stations were posted at Dozinghem and the military cemetery was used by them until early in 1918. There are now 3,173 Commonwealth burials of the First World War in the cemetery and 65 German war graves from this period. The cemetery also contains 73 Second World War burials dating from the Allied withdrawal to Dunkirk in May 1940. The cemetery was designed by Sir Reginald Blomfield.
