Retired from active work (Barnett Banks, Inc.) June 1993. Worked part time, after retirement, for six (6) years as a real estate management consultant and in commercial real estate disbursement inspections.
Completed ROTC program at University of Iowa. Commissioned 2nd Lt. U.S. Army (Armor), University of Iowa, June 1953. Separated as a 1st Lt. U.S. Army (Armor), Ft Lewis, WA in August 1955.
Recent work history prior to retirement - construction loan administration, non performing loan workout and OREO property management (1979 to 1993) for Florida Federal Savings and Loan Association and Barnett Banks, Inc.

DUXBURY, JOHN THOMAS, 74, of Palm Harbor, died Thursday (Feb. 17, 2005) at Tampa General Hospital. He was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and came here in 1968 from North Miami Beach. He retired as vice president of Barnett Bank, now Bank of America, and was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Emily I.; two sons, John Thomas III, Clearwater, and Hugh Edward II, Indian Trail, N.C.; a sister, Linda J. Wilder, St. Petersburg; and seven grandchildren. Curlew Hills Funeral Home, Palm Harbor.

Relocated from Rhode Island to Hixton, Jackson County, WI in 1862. John and his family lived in North Branch, Town of Garden Valley, Alma Center and Hixton, Jackson County, WI and Blair, Trempealeau County, WI. He resided in Blair at the time of his death. As a young man, John worked in farming (on the family farm in Curran, and as a hand for others) until 1908. In 1908, he relocated to Blair, WI where he operated a dray line. In 1910, he relocated his family to Hixton, WI and purchased the pioneer furniture and undertaking business of the late George Rass. He operated this business until his death. His son Paul engaged in the business with him later on.
