Jennie [Female]

Extract of letter written to Brother in Law, Nathan in 1841 from Colorado Springs:-

Brother Nathan (actually it's brother-in-law)
I just received your letter this morning and was glad to hear from some of my children's relations. We have been alone for so many years my children and I, that we almost forgot we belonged to the family of Duxbury. Our children like to know something about their forefathers and I remember your grandfather lived and died in the Meaford area, is that right? (the only ones in that area would be Nathan, John or Joseph Duxbury)
Well, then comes your father Robert Joseph and then Robert William and then my son Robert Orello Duxbury, then his son Edward Orello and then his son Emerson Orello.
Is that right that the Duxbury's came from Duxbury Park somewhere in England?
According to history they came to Duxbury, Mass. and fought in the Indian Piquot War and so Duxbury, Mass. was named for them and now I will tell you about Robert William. (this would be Nathan's brother & Robert Joseph's son)
He became very smart and had invented different machines, but your brother turned out to be a ladies man and lived a fast life, it is best brother that I shall not put it on paper.

We had, as you know three darling children, Billy, Lillian and Leah Duxbury. They were all graduates of New York State High School. They were in their last terms when the blow came. (I guess that's when he left the family)
Billy married Mary when he as 22, he has a son and a daughter - Edward Orello who married a Miss Page and they have 2 children Miss Marion and Emerson.
Billy's daughter Gladys is the dearest little girl that ever lived.
Billy was electric engineer on the Erie Canal and it was a cold job, he caught a cold and it developed into inflammatory rheumatism and he has been cripped for l6 yrs.
Gladys is not married, she will be 33 in April, and she has been engaged to the postmaster for l0 years. (I wonder if they ever married) She thinks it is her duty to help her brother take care of dad and mother.

Lillian, my brown eyed darling married Mr. Rosa. They had been married l6 yrs. when she passed away.
Leah, my baby girl married Harry MacNeil. She left a girl 12 years old who is married to one of Amsterdam's leading lawyers. (I guess Leah died too)

Now, this is me - well after I laid my dear girls away, my sister Minnie lost her husband . She wanted me to come and live with her in Detroit, Michigan, so I have been with her ever since the World War and l0 years ago she married again. Married her widowed brother-in-law and they came out to Colorado Springs for a wedding trip and he see's this place and bought it and so we have lived here for l0 years. The poor man died 5 years ago.
Minnie and I have lived alone since then. We go to New York State to visit Billy once a year. We have a girl who drives for us and does the housework.(The poor man who died, must have left some money)
Well, Nathan, I was a kid when you first saw me but believe it or not I am a little old white haired lady today. I forgot to say David (Nathan's & Robert's brother) is somewhere in Birkley, Virginia and married for the second time and has children.

Billy says very little about his father - only when he passed away, Billy said mother, dad is laid away and that is all, now let's talk about something else. (I wonder where his dad died
Regards to all and write soon, as ever sister Jennie
