Acknowledgements

This acknowledment was written by Peter Duxbury when he first established this website in May 1998. Alas he died in September 2005 and I, Ronald Duxbury Taylor, took over the website two years later. I have left Peter's acknolwedgement unchanged in updating the wesite. I endorse all that he wrote about the help he received and wish to extend that to many others since then. Often a causual enquiry as to "how do I fit in to the Duxbury family" leads to the find of many other Duxburys who can then be added to the trees. So a thank you to all who have got in touch with both Peter and now myself.

I (Peter) owe a debt of gratitude to many people, most of whom are unknown to me, for research carried out over time, that I have be able to draw on in these pages. I owe special thanks to my 1st cousin Ronald Duxbury Taylor, who laid the groundwork of my interest 20+ years ago, and with whom I am still in close contact from his home in Hong Kong. To my 6th cousins Tony Foster and Helen Moorwood, and to Ray Aspden, whose relationship I cannot calculate, who have freely shared with me the information and material that they have painstakingly collected over many years. Tony Foster has researched Duxburys, Darwen and Lancashire extensively for more than 30 years. To Don, Ruth and Janell Duxbury of Madison WI. and John T Duxbury of Palme Harbor FL. for information on Duxburys of Colne. To Joe Duxbury of Cheltenham for information on Duxburys of Simonstone. To Doris Forkin and Hazel Fritschen, for descendants of William Duxbury, 1787 to 1881.

Helen Moorwood

In 1998 Helen set out to write 4 books for publication in 1999 and beyond, covering "Myles STANDISH of Duxbury", "The STANDISHes of Duxbury", "The DUXBURYs of Duxbury" and "Ancient Sites and Old Halls in Duxbury".

During 1999 Helen changed her plans and suspended the publication of the books. Starting in June 1999, a series of articles were published in "Lancashire History Quarterly" under the title "Pilgrim Father Captain Myles Standish of Duxbury, Lancashire and Massachusetts".
